The existence of this practice session was made known by Rey Washam in January 2019 when he uploaded a partial recording to his YouTube channel. The exact location for the session is unclear, Washam citing only that it was the "Nirvana rehearsal studio" in or around Seattle. The date of the session was confirmed by Washam stating that on the evening of the show the trio went to see Guns 'N' Roses play at the Kingdome, which could only correspond to the show there on October 6, 1992.

According to Washam Dave wanted to try out some of his own demos with an actual band and so invited he and Krist Novoselic to jam, despite having never met Washam before. Rey noted that he had to play Dave's drums the way he had set them up for himself, and of course didn't know any of the songs prior.

The only known recording of the session was made by Grohl, presumably using a simple portable cassette recorder, with Washam given a partial tape when he left. It was this tape he shared online in 2019, noting that the 45 minutes uploaded was all he had of the roughly two hour jam session. It is therefore highly likely that Grohl filled only one side of a regular doubled sided 90 minute cassette.

In the recorded segment shared by Washam there is a mixture of very loose jamming as well as some more structured playing with more recognisable existing songs.

The first jam on the tape bears some similarities to the earlier Grohl demo 'Throwing Needles' in some sections, but on the whole this jammed track is much looser in structure, owing to the "jam session" nature. The second jam similarly bears some resemblance to 'Podunk', but again, in a very limited manner. Whether these jams were intended to be rough facsimiles of those existing tracks or were just Dave exploring new ideas with similar riffs, is unclear.

These looser jams were followed by two much tighter and clear attempts at the track 'Make A Bet', with Dave even singing familiar lyrics on the second take. An instrumental of the song had been recorded by Dave, his sister Lisa and Mikey Dees (Fitz of Depression) 6 months earlier.

The easiest identifiable jam is 'Scentless Apprentice', one of the few Nirvana songs which did not originate solely with Kurt Cobain. Before the existence of this session came to light it was already established in Nirvana lore that the song began as Dave's initial idea which Kurt then shaped into the final song. This early version features the unmistakable guitar riff but little else of the songs structure was present at this stage.

Three more distinct instrumental jams followed which again had shades of existing Grohl demo tracks, but nothing close to matching the exact structure of any known song.
