Times Like These (UK Version)

About

The first music video for the song ‘Times Like These’ was directed by Liam Lynch and filmed in a single day. The concept was incredibly simple, the band performing as live with psychedelic style video effects projected around them via green-screen technology. Lynch made an unusual artistic choice by continuing the video at the end without any effects on the screen, Dave staring into the camera with the large green walled room with the rest of the band behind him.

Guitarist Chris Shiflett likened it to the videos that were produced by the “make your own music video” booths found in US shopping malls for a time, coincidentally an idea that Liam Lynch explored directly with Tenacious D for their ‘Tribute’ music video, featuring Dave, a few months previous.

In contrast to the later “Bridge” music video for the song, which Dave expressed his dislike of, calling it “the worst video we’ve ever made in our lives”, he said of this version in 2007 interview - “I like that one”.
